Exciting news for all art and fashion lovers! On 12th March 2015, Lane Crawford will host an event to launch the new season in the atrium at the IFC. Cocurata, a multi-disciplinary art platform and fashion label conceived and founded in New York in 2014 will be a key brand of said event that will combine live art installation and the concept of people being able to interact by making their own short film.
Cocurata will launch its inaugural exhibition and SS/15 collection, EXTRACTION, featuring work from Bäst, Paul Insect and Rostarr. The design of each piece is the result of a direct extraction of an element from each artwork, which has then been used to create a distinct range of elevated street classics and denim for both men and women.
“All of the artists we have initially chosen to bring into the Cocurata stable embody a particular aesthetic that we feel is representative of what we are trying to achieve as a gallery and label,” said George Benias, Cocurata's co- founder and a rising curator and gallerist in New York.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Bäst is one of the few pivotal figures in the international street art movement to retain a considerable degree of anonymity. Despite this anonymity, Bast has established himself as one of the most prolific and seminal figures of the street art movement.
Collage and screen print driven, Bäst’s work bastardises popular culture aesthetic to render new, complex personal imagery that is often layered with raw, heavy- handed brushes of paint. When describing Bäst’s practice, Basky commented, “the work isn’t so much a ‘melting pot’ of culture as a food blender set on max and left until the motor burns out.”
