pre-fall 2014: chalayan

Hussein Chalayan examined the idea of a journey - moving from one place to another - through his Pre-fall 2014 collection for Chalayan.  In particular, he was inspired by a seminal piece of art by Marcel Duchamp, Nude Descending a Staircase, which is the perfect illustration of concept he wanted to depict in his collection.  What resulted was a sumptuous collection of pieces that you could see yourself 'moving through' throughout the day; starting at home, perhaps, with a cozy sweater, going to the office in a smart blouse and skirt, heading out for drinks and dinner in a little dress, and ending the day back home in a comforting, cocoon-like coat.  The setting in which Chalayan photographed the Pre-fall 2014 collection also drew inspiration from Duchamp's work; the abstract, criss-crossing lines mimic his artistic style.  As always, Chalayan has managed to delicately and perfectly walk the line where intelligent art meets commercial product.  And we can't wait to wear it all.
