Chalayan for Vionnet Demi-Couture

Just this week, Hussein Chalayan debuted his first collection of demi-couture for the legendary French house, Vionnet.  As a result of accepting the task, Chalayan decided on an approach to design that ignored the house's design archives, embarking instead on a whole new journey for the storied house.  As inspiration, Chalayan looked to industrial design, though he did infuse a lot of bias cutting into the collection (a technique that Madame Vionnet herself invented).  Our favourite pieces are the ones that opened the collection; the layered organza dresses that revealed peekaboo touches of sheer sections here and there.  Also a hit were the liquid-like sheer plisse gowns--the way they floated down the runway was simply divine.  With red carpet awards season currently in full-swing, we can't wait to see if any of our favourite starlets will be wearing Chalayan for Vionnet this season!
